In 2014, T-MARC Tanzania in collaboration with several other partners received support from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation (BMSF) to implement targeted community mobilization activities to increase cervical cancer screening and treatment services in Tanzania. Tanzania suffers one of the highest cervical cancer burdens in the world and the highest in East Africa. Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer related morbidity and mortality of women in the country. The 18-month cervical cancer intervention was implemented collaboratively between T-MARC Tanzania, the Medical Women’s Association of Tanzania (MEWATA), Wanawake and Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA), the Tanzania Youth Alliance (TAYOA) and the Mbeya HIV/ AIDS Network (MHNT).
